Before Rishi Sunak’s sovereignty sell-out to the EU tomorrow, we invite MPs to read this

Rishi’s rushed EU deal is an abject betrayal of Brexit and a blight on democracy

A comprehensive summary of why MPs should stand up, be democrats, and vote no

Yesterday we published our ‘Wigan Scenario’ showing how Rishi Sunak’s ‘Windsor Framework’ - which he has already agreed with the EU Commission – is a complete betrayal of Brexit. This Friday the Commission’s Vice-President will come to London to sign the agreement, despite MPs not being allowed to see what they are voting for tomorrow.

Any MP voting for the Prime Minister’s secretive EU deal tomorrow is betraying democracy, betraying their voters, and betraying Brexit. The evidence is summarised below.

DUP says no, ERG says no, No.10 says ‘We don’t care’

Yesterday the DUP’s Leader Jeffrey Donaldson finally came out and said his MPs will vote against the motion tomorrow. In a very weak statement he said :-

“Our Party Officers… met this morning and unanimously agreed that in the context of our ongoing concerns and the need to see further progress secured whilst continuing to seek clarification, change and re-working that our Members of Parliament would vote against the draft statutory instrument on Wednesday.
“We will continue to work with the Government on all the outstanding issues relating to the Windsor Framework package to try to restore the delicate political balances within Northern Ireland and to seek to make further progress on all these matters.”

It must be said that two DUP MPs have been far more impressive in their condemnation of the deal: Sammy Wilson MP and Ian Paisley MP. The leader of the TUV party, Jim Allister MLA KC, has been equally impressive.

The Star Chamber of legal experts from the ERG have been working on the details of this rushed deal and will present their report today. We know from private discussions that like the DUP they will find that the Windsor Framework cannot be supported.

Meanwhile, a No.10 spokesman yesterday brushed off the views of those who have been looking at the deal in detail, saying :-

“Of course we wanted to give the DUP and other parties as much time as possible to consider the deal and come to a view. Equally, we need to provide certainty to the people and businesses of Northern Ireland, which is why we have started the process of votes.”

Observations

With the former Prime Minister Boris Johnson facing questions from a Commons Committee tomorrow about ‘Partygate’, the current Prime Minister might hope the headlines about his sell-out of UK sovereignty to the EU will be muted. He may well be right, but he is not right to force through a thoroughly undemocratic vote on a deal with the EU which betrays Brexit.

It almost defies belief that Mr Sunak should do this when MPs have not been given the information they require to make an informed decision. And quite how Labour, the LibDems, the SNP and the Green MP can say they will vote in favour before they have even seen the documents which define the deal is a question they will have to answer to in the court of public opinion.

All the MPs planning to vote for this Brexit betrayal might wish to look around the benches in the Commons tomorrow and consider the absence of so many notable MPs who once tried to subvert the will of the British people from 2016 to 2019.

Interesting report on Panorama this week looking at UK productivity compared to other leading economies and the lack of investment in the UK. The UK can’t afford to continue the stagnation since Brexit. A majority in NI voted remain, the DUP supported leave and this mess that they are objecting to is a result of the Brexit the DUP and ERG supported.

Sparky is basically a Socialist. He hates individual success. He hates independence. He hates the idea that any country or person can succeed on their own without Big Brother making rules and telling them what to do. Show Sparky success and he will come up with some "study" involving the square root of the third differential of something or other and declare that success is really failure because the EU can't take the credit. For Sparky, success is only successful when it's collective and European.

One fact remains, the way it has been described to Parliament could be said to be a deception. The electorate need to be guided around all the technical language & smoke screening to understand this so called triumph of a 'new deal' It's the politicians who need the brake but I suspect that will prove to be as difficult as pulling the EU's non-brake which is clearly not what it is made out to be.

I think Parliament will vote for the WF, but the analysis makes it clear that the summary we have received so far in the UK is pretty dishonest and in fact carefully written to mislead people who want to be misled. There are some practical day-to-day improvements, but they are matters of application, not matters of principle. They will be hailed as big improvements, but they are really just temporary concessions that change nothing in the long run. And it is quite clear that these temporary concessions were aimed at a particular audience - companies that supply goods to NI, who wanted to see a reduction in red tape and who don't care a jot about legal jurisdiction or the wishes of the people of NI.
Without meaning to misuse history, I think that this is the PM's appeasement moment, when he came up with a too-clever formulation that changes nothing in the long run. EU bad faith and predatory policy in NI is still in place and their big win is that they will now have the UK signature even more firmly stamped on this. Boris understood that the original NIP was unworkable and must end sooner or later, one way or another. The PM has breathed new life into it by making its daily application less toxic. From watching the NIP gradually fail, we have become complicit in it.

looks like sellout sunack will manage to loose control of uk sovereignty today,what an utter disgrace.northern ireland is british and should stay within uk, here is a reason why eventually it may be lost to us. the stormont brake is a complete con and if the eu decides to apply further new laws to ni and the stormont brake is used by ni to try to cancel its effect, then the eu can use the e.c.j. to remedy that action used by n.i. its a loose loose situation.just guess who the arbiter of that situation will be!! goodbye sovereignty and freedom. if you think that this is bad read the 3rd country terms on the eu "PESCO" defence scheme which sellout sunack is busy quietly signing us up to its a B joke
