It’s lucky the German hosts made it into the last 16 of the Euros…
… Because there isn’t any other good news for the German people

From a failing economy to a failing government, nothing seems to be going right for the UK’s No.1 European competitor
Aside from its soccer team scrambling though to the last 16 of the Euro 2024 football tournament which Germany is hosting, there is little for its people to celebrate this month. Below we summarise the depressing ‘state of the nation’ for the EU’s No.1 economy, on which the rest of Europe relies.
As Germany is Brexit Britain’s major European competitor, it is legitimate to review how it’s doing.
And it should be noted that none of what follows is “because of Brexit”.
Brexit Facts4EU.Org Summary
1. The dismal economic news for the German people this month
- House prices : Down 5.7% year-on-year

2. For the German government the news is no better
Germany's autobahn bridges falling apart
“As many as 5,000 bridges along Germany's autobahns are so decrepit that they need to be renovated or rebuilt as quickly as possible. But the state, restrained by a national debt brake, is struggling to find the money.”
Immigration
“Faster deportations, third-country asylum procedures - after the EU election, there is growing pressure in Germany to restrict immigration even more.”
- From January to April 2024, only 6,300 people were deported from Germany to their home countries
- However, some 240,000 are currently officially obliged to leave the country
Right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) demolished Chancellor’s socialist party in EU elections
- AfD came second overall in Germany in the June elections
- In five German states the AfD came first
- In three of those states — Saxony, Thuringia and Brandenburg — there are September state elections
- It is expected the AfD will become the strongest party in these states
- It will then be difficult for Scholz to form a governing coalition to outnumber it
Olaf Scholz's Social Democrats (SPD) and the Greens are so weak they may not even clear the 5% threshold to get a single seat in the state parliaments.

Observations
For the last eight years since the UK-EU Referendum we have had to endure the pro-EU BBC and other pro-EU media - and the Remainer-Rejoiner organisations - gleefully seizing on any small nugget of negative news in the UK and implying (or in many cases claiming) this is “because of Brexit”.
Above we have shown how everything in the German garden is not rosy. To the best of our knowledge Germany has not left the EU. Despite this, the news out of Germany for the last year has not been good. In this report we have merely singled out the output this month from the German Federal statistics agency, as well as some facts from the German state broadcaster.
We hope this puts the solid performance by Brexit Britain into perspective, for those who seem to need this.
