What we now see is the best you can hope for, but it's going to get worse.

The UK will be on the outside of an inward-looking EU as it deals with ever-worsening crises.

EU Reform - How Did Mr Cameron Get On?

Much has been said and written about the outcome of Mr Cameron's negotiations with the EU. Here is a very short version:-

1. In Mr Cameron's famous 'Bloomberg Speech' in 2013, he promised to work for fundamental reforms of the EU.

2. In an article for the Telegraph in 2015 he set out 10 key areas for reform.

3. In the Conservative Manifesto he promised even more reforms.

4. In his final negotiation he only attempted 4 changes, none of them fundamental reforms of the EU.

5. A 'normal' person's analysis of Mr Cameron's attempts at his revised and very limited reforms would be:-

4-year ban on EU migrants receiving in-work benefits – Failed.
Ban on paying Child Benefit for children living in other EU countries – Failed.
4-year ban on paying Housing Benefit to EU migrants – Not even asked for.
Veto on Eurozone countries being able to pass legislation damaging to UK economy – Failed.
A legally-binding agreement – Failed.

Naturally politicians can argue and make words mean what they want them to mean. The Editors of Facts4eu.org believe that the above is a fair summary from a normal person's perspective, in everyday language.

Even the most ardent Remain campaigners can't reasonably say that Mr Cameron achieved anything like a 'fundamental reform of the EU'.

Essentially we'll be voting for the EU as it is, and as it's going to be in the future.

What Would Our Future Look Like If We Stayed In?

Most of us have little exposure to the EU.We don't often see TV clips from the EU Parliament, and anyway the real power takes place behind closed doors in the EU Commission.

1. Here is a link to the EU Commission President's last 'State of the Union' speech.

2. We strongly recommend that you watch as much as you can.

3. This man is your EU Commission President. You weren't allowed to vote for or against him, but he's immensely powerful.

Unfortunately events like these never make it into the public consciousness. Nor have hundreds of other EU-related items of news, which would have helped the British public to form a general impression of the EU and how it works.

Before Mr Cameron Was Elected Prime Minister, What Did He Say?

CONSERVATIVE MANIFESTO 2010, ON SOVEREIGNTY

“The steady and unaccountable intrusion of the European Union into almost every aspect of our lives has gone too far.

A Conservative government will negotiate for three specific guarantees – on the Charter of Fundamental Rights, on criminal justice, and on social and employment legislation – with our European partners to return powers that we believe should reside with the UK, not the EU.

We seek a mandate to negotiate the return of these powers from the EU to the UK. ”

In six years, no powers have been returned. Leaving means taking back control.
