Sunak, the EU, and the imminent risk to UK sovereignty - Your country needs you today

If you really want the UK's sovereignty back from the EU, here are two urgent actions for you

We must all act now, before our country becomes permanently divided by the EU

Since Friday evening reputable sources based in London and Brussels have all been saying the same thing. Rishi Sunak now plans to finalise the terms of an amended deal with the EU over the iniquitous Northern Ireland Protocol. Without the agreement of the Unionist parties in Northern Ireland, nor his own backbenchers, it seems that a deal has been struck by No.10 with Brussels.

Quite unbelievably it had been planned that EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was to meet HM King Charles at Buckingham Palace yesterday (Saturday) before the PM briefed his Cabinet today, prior to an announcement in the House of Commons tomorrow.

They had even tried to brand it as “the Windsor Agreement”. Fortunately this quite improper attempt to associate the Monarch with a political manoeuvre by No.10 resulted in a backlash and has now been cancelled.

It seems the PM is ploughing on regardless

Nevertheless, all signs this morning are that the PM is set on rail-roading through a new deal with the EU which is unacceptable to the DUP and other Unionist parties, and which has not yet even been seen by almost all his backbenchers - or even by ministers in his own government.

Facts4EU.Org’s own sources have read the text as it stood on Thursday and told us that it didn’t come close to what is required.

Since then, it is inconceivable that the wholesale changes which are needed have been agreed to by the EU.

At the time of writing we don’t know whether the Sunak deal will be presented in the Commons on Monday or Tuesday, nor whether it will be subject to a vote or merely a debate. What we do know is that the PM seems determined to push his deal through and thinks he and No.10 can ‘spin’ this sell-out successfully.

We also know from his article in this morning's Daily Telegraph that he has agreed to ditch the 'Northern Ireland Protocol Bill' - a key bargaining tool - as part of his secret deal with the EU.

If you believe - as we do - that no part of the United Kingdom should be under the laws and regulations of a foreign power, then your chance to act is here, today.

There are two things to be done today - urgently

ACTION 1 : Now is the time for MPs to stand up and be counted

Below is an open letter from CIBUK to all MPs. (Brexit Facts4EU.Org is an Affiliated Organisation of CIBUK.) Readers are welcome to download this and send it to their own MP, with their own thoughts. All details of how to do this are below.

ACTION 2 : “I’m British and I want my country back”

If you believe that the United Kingdom should once again be a whole, independent, and sovereign country, without any EU interference in our affairs of any kind, then please write to your MP today.

Normally we strongly advise a physical letter sent by post, as these are far more likely to be read than emails, but time is of the essence. We therefore recommend that you email your MP now and then go to the letter box and post the contents as a letter, via the Royal Mail. Once again, details of how to do this are below.

The CIBUK open letter to MPs

To download CIBUK's MP’s letter as a PDF click here and save it to your computer. If you don't have PDF the image version is here (low resolution). Then either attach it in an email to your MP or send it by post with an accompanying letter from you personally. Please also note that all MPs require your name and address so that they can confirm you are a constituent. Please also remember to keep your email or letter to your MP short and courteous and remember that letters are more effective than emails.

Dear Member of Parliament,

We write to you with an urgent request concerning the very nature of the United Kingdom as an independent, sovereign country.

CIBUK comprises 15 Affiliated Organisations including Brexit Facts4EU, Briefings for Britain, the Centre for the Union, Global Britain, and others. On a good day we can hit over one million voters on Twitter alone. We therefore hope you might read what follows, given the likelihood of a new Northern Ireland Protocol deal with the EU being announced imminently by the PM.

Putting the DUP’s ‘seven tests’ to one side for a moment, (they were in any case written loosely and not for the purpose of a forensic examination of any deal), the acid test is :

“Who governs Northern Ireland, is it fully part of the UK with all its laws made in Parliament, is the Belfast Agreement fully respected, and is the United Kingdom completely intact as an independent, sovereign country?”

It is the general view of our supporters that sovereignty is the overriding factor in the NIP debate. Green lanes, red lanes, and the minutiae of trading arrangements don’t always cut through, but the issue of Northern Ireland either being part of the United Kingdom or not – this resonates strongly.

If any proposed deal with Brussels does not restore in full the Act of Union 1800 and the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement, and make Northern Ireland free from EU law, then it will not be acceptable to a great many voters. Our supporters feel NI should be integrally part of the UK and not a colony of the EU, regardless of how this might try to be nuanced in the text of any proposed UK-EU agreement.

We are of course happy to engage with you at any time by phone, WhatsApp, or email, and we are ready to feature any comments you may wish to make on this issue - on our website reports and on social media. We can also provide you with links to a wealth of authoritative reports researched from official sources which summarise all the aspects of the current situation.

We hope we might have your support on this essential subject for so many voters and that you will stand firm against any rushed, unsatisfactory, compromise deal – if that is what is presented.

Finally we ask: "Should any part of the United Kingdom be under the jurisdiction of a foreign power?" No other developed country in the world would contemplate such a gross intrusion over its internal affairs as the EU has imposed on the United Kingdom. Let's now put this right once and for all.

Yours faithfully,
The Officers, for CIBUK.Org

Doing your bit for United Kingdom sovereignty

It's always easy to assume that other people will do something. Sadly that's seldom the case. Unless each person reading this is galvanised to tell their MP how they feel about the EU having annexed part of the United Kingdom and made it into a colony under EU law and courts, with no say or vote over these, then our country may never return.

Doing your bit for United Kingdom sovereignty

How to let your MP know how you feel

Address for all MPs: [MP's name], House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA. Phone number for all MPs: 020 7219 3000. Just ask for your MP by name. Email : House of Commons directory of MPs – just type in your postcode to find your MP or use the alphabetical list. Here is an example entry

As we have said, emailing an MP is fine but please remember that it's easy to email, so many people do that. Letters take more time and effort but they are much more likely to be read and have more impact.

You can also use a free "write to your MP" service but be aware that this sends an email not a letter. The advantage is that they track whether MPs respond or not.

Constituency Offices are listed for some MPs by using the House of Commons Directory, above. If it's not there it will be in the phone book under ‘Members of Parliament', or you can call the MP's office in the Commons to get the postal and email addresses.

Observations

"Should any part of the United Kingdom be under the jurisdiction of a foreign power?"

What a ridiculous question. Of course not. Would President Biden agree to Texas being subjected to Mexican law? We all know the answer.

And yet that is the current position of the United Kingdom, thanks to the vindictive and hostile EU, the disastrous Remainer government of Theresa May, her Remainer civil servants, and the complicity of anti-democratic MPs in the House of Commons.

It's over six years since the majority of the British electorate voted to leave the EU and it's time for all this to be concluded properly. The time is now. Please, please tell your MP how you feel. Bombard him or her with letters, emails, and even phone calls. Make your voice heard before it's too late.

All signs are pointing to the Prime Minister announcing a new EU deal on either Monday or Tuesday. Almost no-one has seen this deal and we simply do not believe that the EU has changed its spots. There will be so-called 'concessions' and the deal will be spun by No.10 so hard we will all get dizzy. None of this matters. It all comes down to the fundamental question we posed above.

No other developed country in the world would contemplate such a gross intrusion over its internal affairs as the EU has imposed on the United Kingdom. Let's now put this right once and for all.
